There's a hand inside the famous fangs and tongues are firmly in cheek in McLennan Theatre's production of "Dracula: A Comedy Of Terrors," a giveaway to audiences that the emphasis is on the comedy in the title and not the terrors.
The fast-paced play by Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen stays true, mostly, to the storyline of Bram Stoker's famous novel "Dracula," but with a wink, nod and some campy energy.
In the McLennan Theatre production, Dracula is a puppet, vampire hunter Van Helsing is Jean Van Helsing and characters are close to the edge if not over the top.
"We let our hair down a little bit," said McLennan Community College theater professor Kelly Parker, who's co-directing the McLennan Theatre finale with colleague Cori Burkett. "It's very irreverent and aware of itself ... It's for people who love Dracula, vampires and also a good laugh."
