Against the backdrop of a grocery superstore, we discover nine different stories featuring nine unique couples at divergent points of courtship, passion, and misery. Obsessive/Impulsive: Brendan and Lanie, their OCD shows in their clothing choice.
Singing Telegram: Cori wants Izzy in pants that have pockets. Needs a bell hop hat and jacket. Arlo is going out dancing, needs earrings for that scene. I pulled a top that is off the shoulder.  I need a skirt or pants to go with it.
What?: Alex needs a tie, Charlie is in PJs. I  pulled the same PJ set that I bought Edgar for the opera and paired it with his Twin Peaks shirt from She Kills Monsters. I pulled a light blue button down shirt for Alex and some nice dress pants.  He "buys" the tie from the Supercenter on his way to the date.
The Answer: Izzy needs a tux, pants can be the same as her singing telegram pants.  Eden needs a dress that's not so big it wouldn't fit in a bathroom. I bought a lace dress with a mermaid tail for Eden and a separates tux blazer and plain pants in black for Izzy.  Izzy needs a straight tie rather than a bow tie for the scene.  I pulled a purple one to match her hair. I also have purple slacks in case we want her to look snazzier.
Uh Oh: Colton needs a light colored shirt that will show the water gun spray, Arin needs something but I don't have her measurements yet because she is a Baylor student.  They are at home playing on their phones in leisure wear.
Lunch and Dinner: Reanna, Charlie just home from work, suit and tie. They are the wealthiest couple. I bought Charlie a light blue suit.  I bought reanna a light pink shortie pajama set to match the long robe that I pulled for her.
Forgot: Lanie and Nick are going out for drinks. I bought Lanie a pink linen sheath dress with a slit high up the leg on one side.  I bought Nick a blue linen blazer and a pair of white linen pants. I pulled him a Tshirt, a polo, and a collared short sleeve shirt to go with it.
Where Was I?: Reanna stay at home mom digging in the garage, Eden working clothes.  I pulled a tweed skirt in pink and a blouse as well as a nice dress with no sleeves for Eden.  Reanna is going to provide grey leggings, tennis shoes, and I pulled a pink t shirt.
Destiny: Nick gym clothes, tight shirt, Rachael grocery shopping in embarrassing clothes. I bought an oversized off the shoulder t shirt that has Halloween pumpkins being grabbed by skeleton hands.  She is providing her own tennis shoes, leggings, and sports bra.

“Love/Sick,” McLennan Theatre, 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday, McLennan Community College’s Music & Theatre Arts building; $10, $8 for senior adults and non-MCC students.

The path of true love never did run smooth, said Lysander in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and in John Cariani’s “Love/Sick” that never-smooth path goes through nine vignettes of couples at different stages of relationships, all set in a grocery superstore on a Friday night.
Director Cori Burkett said the play, written by the playwright of “Almost, Maine,” provides a nice close to the theater’s 2022-23 season in its subject matter and structure of nine two-person scenes. “Love/Sick” finds people caught by first love to ones in the midst of separation and divorce.
The play enabled Burkett to cast 12 actors in scenes that emphasize acting over sets and situations. “Everyone gets their 10 minutes and everyone has a chance to shine,” she said.
