Fabric Gallery
We had leftover money from last year's budget, so this summer I bought $500 worth of fabric for the Queen of the Night and the three Ladies.
Progress
We had to make four new crinolines for the three ladies and the Queen of the Night. Our old ones were made for Christmas Carol back in 1998 were falling apart. Here's Jesse Deaver in one of the new ones made by my costuming class freshmen. Jesse is playing one of the Ladies. Next semester, we'll drape the bodices on the girls and then begin the build process. I'll be taking advantage of some sales this weekend to get the rest of the fabric purchased.
Rest of the fabric has been purchased, along with feathers for the Papageno family and dye for one piece of blue fabric that really needs to be green.
Below are images of the Queen of the Night's hoop with a three tiered net petticoat over it, paniers over that, and the crushed velvet skirt. Second row of photos is the First Lady's net petticoat and crinkle taffeta skirt with base bodice. Third row of photos is the Second Lady's net petticoat and crinkle taffeta skirt with bodice. Fourth row of photos is the Third Lady's net petticoat. Tomorrow's job is to put the waistband on her crinkle taffeta skirt and do the mosaic on her bodice. Thursday I made Pamina's bodice and skirt. I still need to get a photo of that up here.
Last weekend I spent working on Papageno's doublet. Monday I made Tamino's jacket out of barely two yards of this beautiful embroidered floral net that was very expensive and also all they had left. Anthony is a 46 chest and waist, so it was just barely enough but I still had enough to cover most of his sleeves. Tuesday I made Papagena's bodice and skirt. I need a photo of the back, it's got a bum roll in between the skirt and lining. I still have to make baby Papagena's skirt. And of course everything needs to actually be finished: Hems, closures, hook and eye tape on all the bodices. Tamino's jacket still needs sleeves,
