Production Meeting Dec. 10
Fairy tale village, period non-specific. The plot revolves around Beppe who is the character who killed 7 flies in one blow from the fairy tale. The subplot is that
Beppe and Luigi are feuding rivals, but their children are in love with each other, a la Romeo and Juliet.
The concept for the show is built around the characters' occupations and their families.
Each main character will have their own set piece that serves as the door to their shop and living space, where they conduct their businesses and live with their families. Beppe the tinker's house/shop will be downstage left from the other four shops and will be the only one that is an interior. Each main characters will have an assigned family group made of up chorus members:
The Tinker: Beppe (Matt Watkins), his daughter Nannina, (Mary Beechner).
The Butcher: Lee Brown, his wife, (Kiki), his daughter Rosina, (Sally Cross) and other daughter (Jennifer Ruthorford).
The Baker: Emma Steffeck, her daughter Isabella (Rosie Fisher).
The Candlestick Maker: Chance Webster, and daughter Angelina (Atira Crouch).
The Cobbler: Luigi (David), his son Ernesto (Zack Long), and his wife Sydney Lackey.
Madelena the Pie Lady will not have a house, but her own cart that she wheels into town to sell her pies from.
Each character will be dressed in costumes that reflect their occupations. The tinker will have a leather apron, the baker will have oven mitts, an apron and a hat, etc.. I'll find fabrics with appropriate prints on it, like fruits or bread, or candles, etc... Bright colors, full skirts and petticoats for the women, poet shirts and breeches for the men. I plan on building most of the costumes. I'll start buying fabric after Jan. 1st and hopefully have everything ready to go by the first day of school.
Jan. 10: One third of the fabric came from Joanne's, one third from Etsy, and one third from my stock. All the fabrics have been acquired, serged, washed, dryed, and pressed before classes begin. Rehearsal skirts have been pulled, shoes and boots are ready to go for rehearsal as well.

The Build
Spring Break is being spent cutting all the girls skirts and luckily I have work study students who have said that they will come in to sew.
Sunday: 11-7 Me all by myself, cutting skirts, plackets, and waistbands, as well as blouses and sleeves for the girls. I had to draft the blouse pattern first. I got eight sets done plus one apron.
Monday 1-5 Me all by myself, cutting pants and shirts for the boys. I had to draft the patterns first. I got four pairs of pants done and 2 shirts and one more skirt and blouse, plus one more apron.
Tuesday 1-5 Me all by myself cutting more pants and shirts for the boys. I got one pair of pants done and two shirts. Then I cut eight of the girls' mob caps after drafting a pattern, and did one more apron and one more blouse.
Wednesday 1-5 Me all by myself, cutting one more shirt and patterning the bodices for the girls. I got one bodice cut out.
Thursday 1-5. I got four more bodices cut out.
Friday 1:30-3. I got two more bodices cut out before I found out that due to Corona Virus, all performances are cancelled for the rest of the semester.
