The Little Black Box Play Festival (10 NEW SHORT PLAYS) Written by Various Authors Directed by Jerry MacLauchlin, Kelly Parker, Sherrae Cornett and McLennan students Scenography by Stagecraft II students
Our philosophy for Intro to Design students is that the best way to learn about designing, is to actually do it. So this semester, in addition to their regular class projects, their final project was to do scenography for our final production. Each student was given one ten minute play to design costumes, scenery, lighting, and sound for. Each student designer had to read and analyze the script, have production meetings with their director, sketch their ideas, and then execute the technical elements. As with any class project, some students did well and some did not. In the case where the scenographer didn't do his due diligence, the director and cast had to step in and finish the show. Student designers were given no budget for their plays.
